Felistas Coutinho, Tanzania

Felistas Coutinho has been actively serving in the microfinance industry for over 16 years in various positions from front line loan officer, branch manager to Managing Director.

She now holds the position of executive director in Tujijenge Afrika, a consulting company providing capacity building support to MFIs in English speaking Africa with work done in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Namibia. Her interest in the environment started in 2003 when she led testing of solar loans that didn’t go through the pilot-test phase. In 2006 she successfully developed a financing model for SACCOS in the Arusha/Moshi region in Tanzania that resulted into a sustainable lending of solar systems that even after 5 years without supervision was working. In 2011/2012 she has replicated a modified version to SACCOS in Uganda with success as well. In 2010 Both MFIs under Tujijenge Afrika in Uganda and Tanzania have solar energy products to their clientele. She now seeks to go beyond solar products in promoting a sustainable environment.
